Women in Ministry

On Saturday I asked the following question:

Which areas of our theology are in need of further development?

Almost everyone agreed that our view of women in ministry was in need of revision.

Maybe it's time that we admit our errors, and make a 180 degree turn.

I've been having a discussion on this topic with a fellow theologian, and what I really believe it comes down to is this.

There are verses in the Bible that refer to the Pastor or Bishop position as a male. Yet there are also examples of Women being Pastors in the Bible. So what does this tell us? That the Bible contradicts itself? I don't think so.

What I think is that some people maybe prefer to go to a church with a male Pastor, and there is nothing wrong with that, but at the same time, some people prefer or just don't care if the Pastor is man or woman. I don't think it’s a Biblical debate at all.

For it to be a Biblical debate then our church would have to be built on a completely Biblical foundation, which its not.

It’s designed after a theater, with stock music, an alter call at the end of every sermon, and lets not forget about the tithe.

So what I'm basically saying is the debate is not a Biblical one, but a personal one that Narrow minded Christians try to make Biblical, because that is just what Christians do. If we don't like something we call it sin.

dr. nate published quite a blog. i concur with what he said. we have to take our cultural shades off to clearly see that our chauvanistic approach to church is blatant bigotry. no excuses, just a dire need for immediate change. we must quit blogging and start acting on this gross misrepresentation of Christ's family.
