Yesterday Adam threatened to "go America" on me if I didn't give at least a little hint as to my views on eschatology. Since I don't know what "going America" entails, I'm assuming that it's not the least bit pleasant.
So in order to escape my imminent fate, here are a few thoughts [These are taken from a book I am engaging with right now: "The Rapture Exposed" by Barbara Rossing, pg. 41] The book challenges the "dispensational" interpretation of the book of Revelation.
1. There is no mention of a rebuilt Jerusalem temple anywhere in the New Testament, including Revelation
2. Neither Daniel nor Revelation uses the word Antichrist
3. There is no record in Revelation or Daniel o the Antichrist making a covenant with Israel
4. There is no record in Daniel or Revelation of the Antichrist breaking the covenant with Israel
5. There is no mention that Jesus will set up an earthly throne in Jerusalem
I hope these points will be taken into consideration anytime one seeks to properly exegete the book of Revelation.

Rev. 14:9-10 those who worship the beast will burn in sulfur.
Rev. 20:12 the dead were judged for the things they have done
vs. 15 No name in the lambs' book of life... thrown into the lake of fire.
Rev. 21:6-8 those who overcome go to heaven; those who are immoral... lake of fire... where is salvation in this equation... just a question... i believe in salvation.
with all the animals, flames and wild imagery the book of revelation seems to be poetical and not prophetical. yet, if one stakes that claim then all of the evangelicals' leverage over sinners' crumbles under their feet. so one must decide 'lambs' book of life': poetry or prophecy? 'the beast': poetry or prophecy? 'lake of fire': poetry or prophecy?
i believe that these things do existin a much less poetical fashion. we must look at passages such as Rev. 14, 20 and 21 and heed the fact that hell exists; but in what manifestation.
i think i want to go america all over 'secret rapture' next. who are you? and ok... seriously, that's weird.

Rev. 1:16In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance...The seven stars are the angels[c] of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.
This is called imagery. He begins the book with imagery, yet we want to take half of the book litterally, and half the book not.
This is the problem with loose litteralist. You're picking and choosing what is litteral. I would say it would have to be poetry... since he begins with poetry, and the descriptions he gives are straight up poetry.
As far as hell is concerened. It is always referanced to a place in the absence of God. But wouldn't you say that hiltler was as far from God as you could be? Therefore couldn't hell be no worse then living on this earth can be? So maybe going to heaven is simply becoming what you were meant to be, and being closer to God, and hell is an endless life full of heart break and insecurities.
Just a thought.
(I don't have spell check on here, so it bothers you that I spelled a bunch of stuff wrong you can go to "hell.")

One more quick thought that I came across while reading Mark today. Mark 13:3-23 gives us a lot of the idea of how the end times will be. (IE the killing, sun going dark and such). But it is directly followed up by:
13:30 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
Which points towards the end times already passing, which calling it end times would not really be an appropriate name.
